Coco catches our eye

It's clearly a day in which we've been fixated with 2011's hair trends; first we looked at the year's hair colours, and now Coco Rocha catches our eye having forgone her red locks in favour of a short black hairstyle.

Dark Angel may have caught our eye the hair but it is actually a make-up driven story, aimed at inspiring fashionisers and readers at large with a dramatic take on "sinfully sensual makeup." I'm not sure that it's sinful or sensual, but the likes of cherry-bomb lips and smokey eye make-up is certainly worth perusing by clicking on the thumbnails below.

60s ladylike one of theClothing Trends in 2010

60s ladylike

60s ladylike

The silhouettes of the 1950s and 1960s make a strong return, with shapes that accentuate curves and foster femininity. The aesthetic is decidedly Mad Men, the look is versatile and fun. A hip-hugging sheath dress with a below-the-knee hem is the ultimate in hourglass dressing, while the full circle skirt and dress remain at the core of the trend.

60s dress / full skirt: women's trend

It's no great accident that the popularity of Mad Men has coincided with a resurgence in early '60s fashion. A sartorial inspiration to men and women alike, we've seen an avalanche of elements from the era spill over into fashion's impressionable mind; and the bulk of the torrent is yet to come.
So say bonjour to fuller figures and longer hemlines as the skirt and dress silhouettes of the late '50s / early '60s swing their way back onto the scene as a 2010 / 2011 fashion trend.

The power of accessories

Yet another example of how accessories can make a look: this time it's complimentary tan and neautral leathers in the handbag and shoes; and an impacting pair of cat eye sunglasses.

SHOW YOUR PASSION FOR FOOTBALL... AND WIN!

Both amateur and professional shutterbugs in Qatar and the Gulf are invited to submit their work to the Passion for Football Photo Competition, which we’re sponsoring together with the Qatar Photographic Society.
The 22 photographs that best capture Gulf residents’ love of football will be featured on our website and in art exhibitions organized by the bid. The best photograph will win QR 10,000. Second and third prizes will win QR5,000 and QR3,000 respectively. The winners, along with 19 honourable mentions, will receive vouchers for QR350 to spend at our online store. All 22 winning entries will be featured on our website and elsewhere.
The contest is a great way for both amateur and professional photographers to use their passion for photography to demonstrate Gulf residents’ passion for “the beautiful game.”
The contest begins on April 15 and runs through May 23.

Qatar's plans for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ include 12 eco-friendly, carbon-neutral stadiums.

All of the stadiums will harness the power of the suns rays to provide a cool environment for players and fans by converting solar energy into electricity that will then be used to cool both fans and players. When games are not taking place, the solar installations at the stadiums will export energy onto the power grid. During matches, the stadiums will draw energy from the grid. This is the basis for the stadiums’ carbon-neutrality.
The upper tier of 9 of the stadiums will be removed after the tournament. One, Doha Port Stadium, will be completely modular, and will be deconstructed following the FIFA World Cup™. During the event, if we win the right to host, the capacity of most stadiums will be between 40,000 and 50,000 fans, with one much larger stadium for hosting the opening and final matches, amongst others. When the tournament ends, the lower tiers of the stadiums will remain in Qatar. Able to accommodate between 20,000 and 25,000 fans, the smaller stadiums will be suitable for football and other sports.
The upper tiers will be sent to developing nations, which often lack sufficient football infrastructure. We see sending the stadiums to developing nations as an integral part of our bid, as doing so will allow for the further development of football on the global stage. Along with the stadiums, we plan to make the cooling technologies we have developed available to other countries in hot climates, so that they too can host major sporting events.
